The chronicling of our adventures in South Korea and Asia!

Here in Korea we have been able to hear a lot of amazing music we otherwise wouldn’t have been exposed to. It’s great, even if just for the novelty. That said, it’s been a little tough keeping up with music back home and that just means we’ve got to keep the old stuff fresh. In the spirit of that I bought some new headphones for my iPod, they’re different.

The VIBE bs 80HD headphones caught my eye in our local Homeplus the other day but I didn’t buy them. I was attracted to the simple design. Make no mistake these headphones aren’t earbuds, and the slightly bigger face topped with aluminum looked bold amidst all the plastic. I eventually noticed, in English, their true appeal. It read, “Vibrating earphone”. I was intruiged, so I left.

After a bit of research I found that the brand made a small splash amongst audiophiles looking to import the Korean designed set. Described as a ‘sub woofer in your ear’ the phones actually vibrate with the music. This is supposed to enhance clarity at lower volumes while also making it safer to listen at louder volumes. I wanted to try, so I did.

The first thing I noticed was that the headphones are lighter and more comfortable than my old in-ear buds. The sound, for the first few seconds, seemed a little weird to me, almost hollow. I think this was because they aren’t noise cancelling and the air pressure was being released by vibration, not pumped into my head. After those few seconds everything clicked. The band kicked in and I was lost. The clarity is a huge step up and the vibration actually does seem to make the music sound fuller though I haven’t tried anything too base heavy. The vibration isnt going to rattle your brain or anything but it’s a pretty unique sensation that, while the novelty lasts, has me pretty impressed. These VIBEs are definitely the best set Ive ever owned, hoping they last longer than the last pair!
